WE ARE THE SHOW

Bones Fest is a production of the Rhythm Bones Society by its members and for its members joy and growth. We also have a group mission to spread the joy of rhythm bones, their history and technique, to the greater public as we honor the players who have passed on before us. So join the Bones Fest XII minstrel troupe. We are heralding a troupe of 50 (yes, count them, fifty} fine, fun, fantastic and fabulous rhythm bones players. We want YOU! St. Louis is in for a great show.

REGISTRATION FEE ONLY $35 ALL WEEKEND

Fifty is our magic number for Bones Fest XII. If 50 RBS members (past, present and future) contribute a $35 registration fee we will have $1,500 for the treasury. That is just enough to pay our event insurance and the use of the University of Missouri- St.Louis conference facility, as well as a $10 catered brunch Sunday morning 9AM to 11AM in the University "Under Croft" Multi-Purpose Room. This room is literally under the Chapel, a holy place with great bone acoustics for farewell playing, presentations, hugs, etc. You are 10 minutes from the Lambert Field airport by Metro train or car. Dorm check out time is not until 3:00PM on Sunday.

Register now and you will receive one of our 50 gift bags as well as first choice of our on-board accommodations.

Registration for Friday night only $5(?), all day Saturday only $10(?).

T-SHIRTS AND CAPS

In order to keep the registration as economical as possible there will be no free T-shirts this year. However, we will have a Hot Press and Bones Fest XII official decals in small(for caps), medium (umbrellas, underpants, etc.) and large (T-shirts) available in the Museum room. So, bring your own favorite style of T-shirt (new or used) or other item and we will press a decal on for you. The decals work best on light color cotton. For you river rats we will also have official Bones Fest temporary tattoos!

ACCOMMODATIONS ABOARD THE RIVERBOAT "BONES FEST XII"

I call the period 1840 to l940 the era of "Pre-TV entertainment". It could also be called the "heyday of rhythm bones". In the beginning of this era there were no railroads and very few good roads. The great rivers were the highways for commerce and culture(see the great rivers map). This was also the time of the birth of the Minstrel Show and Brother Bones. At one time there would be over 100 riverboats docked along the St. Louis riverfront.

By the end of this era the railroads usurped the hauling of freight and much of the passenger service so the riverboats turned to the excursion and entertainment business. These Show and Dance boats were floating palaces with great showrooms, luxury accommodations, musicians, gamblers and of course, bones players.

"Bones Fest XII" is our imaginary riverboat (a three deck-er). As you walk up the gang blank (the steps to Provincial House) you will enter the Museum room to sign on board, learn all about Bones, and buy bones if you didn't bring your own. From the Museum room you will be directed to our main deck 350 seat ballroom (UMSL EAB Auditorium).

The second deck is for our "steward class" accommodations (UMSL conference center dormitory) with 20 rooms (40 beds, only 15$/night), two lounges and an outdoor court yard for boning (no alcohol). The third deck is for our "first class" passengers with 10 state rooms and the riverboat bar (Crowne Plaza Hotel on the riverfront). (Yes alcohol!)
